With a buzzing commercial inflow and high-income rate, the
residents of Singapore deep in to the nations mall culture. Majority of the
country’s population spend their time in malls for fun and recreational
activities.
Though there is many malls in Singapore that offer
recreational and fun to the residents, it is Junction 8 shopping Centre that is most popular with the locals.
This shopping mall was the second one to open in suburban Singapore after the
North point mall in its Yishun district.
The Junction 8
Shopping Centre located in the heart of the country, in Bishan. Bishan is a
district that is densely populated and the Junction 8 mall is at the center of
it. Thus, it very well serves to the needs of the people in that area. This all
is also very strategically located and connected by both the Bishan bus
Interchange and the MRT Interchange Station.
The Junction 8 mall was completed in the year 1993, making
it only the second suburban mall in Singapore after North point mall. The name
of this mall was derived from the station number of the old North South Line
that served the locals of Bishan.
Junction 8 when first became operational, it opened with 73
shops or tenants. Food Junctions outlet, the Golden Village Cineplex, Safe
Superstore and Daimaru Supermarket and department store among many others.
The mall experienced heavy footfall ever since it’s opening
and with a rise in population of the area and rise in demand it went for an
expansion. It was expanded by another lock in the year 2004. With the extension
of the mall by a new block more brands and retail outlets made their entry in
to local business. The builders Capitaland Mall Asia also built a link bridge
from the mall to the car park that was opposite the mall making it convenient
for people to visit Junction 8.
